Apple could soon bring security camera capabilities to its smart home hub, as suggested by hidden clues within the HomeView 27.2 code discovered by a Reddit user named pdfu. The uncovered text outlines a dedicated security camera mode featuring live streaming, motion detection, and recording choices, alongside various privacy safeguards.
HomeKit Secure Video Integration
As reported by pdfu, the software includes a setup page containing the specific instruction that the device can function as a security camera utilizing HomeKit Secure Video. Video streams will remain restricted strictly to individuals belonging to the household.
To ensure transparency, the device will emit an audio chime and illuminate an indicator light whenever a user views the feed or initiates a recording. Furthermore, residents of the home will receive instant notifications whenever any configurations for the Secure Video mode undergo modification.
Customizable Monitoring Options
The code indicates that users will have access to adjustable settings tailored to whether they are away, sleeping, or currently at home. These options allow individuals to customize exactly what the system records, streams, or detects.
Although observers have questioned why these dual-purpose camera capabilities were omitted when HomeView first launched, Apple has not yet confirmed the upcoming release of these features. Given the company’s strong emphasis on privacy in its marketing campaigns, Apple may be taking additional time to perfect these functionalities prior to a public rollout.
