Playable Leaked Version of Canceled Portal Prequel F-Stop

Leakers have successfully assembled a playable build of the canceled Portal prequel known as F-Stop. The vast majority of the game’s assets originated from a massive 12-terabyte data leak that surfaced in August.

The Final Pieces and Unique Mechanics

Although the initial August leak lacked both the game’s source code and map data, those crucial missing elements emerged on the Valve Cut Content Discord. This addition enabled enthusiasts to construct a nearly complete, playable version of the title.

While certain dialogue lines and elements from F-Stop eventually migrated into Portal 2, the prequel differs significantly from the main Portal series. The gameplay centers around a camera mechanic that allows players to capture an item by taking its photograph and repositioning it in the environment using Polaroid-style pictures, bearing similarities to the game Viewfinder.

Origins at Valve

The leaked title features a brief campaign, with playthrough videos lasting under an hour. This concise length aligns with its origins as part of Valve’s Directed Design Experiments in 2007, a three-month initiative that divided the company into five teams to create experimental video game concepts.
