Google has announced that its AI Mode will begin displaying advertisements across several new international markets, a move designed to make the search feature profitable.
Global Expansion and New Ad Formats
Users in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore will start seeing advertisements in AI Mode. People residing in Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom will also begin encountering these ads later in the year. Furthermore, the United States will receive “multiturn” ads, which means sponsored content will appear during follow-up queries as well.
This expansion arrives following a discussion during parent company Alphabet’s third-quarter earnings call. Company executives informed investors that AI Mode was experiencing lower monetization, failing to generate revenue matching the high costs of running the feature. However, executives reported that the advertisements have shown “promising results” so far, indicating that entering new markets could help turn AI Mode into a profitable venture.
Google originally launched AI Mode across the United States in May 2025, followed closely by tests of the sponsored content advertisements in November of the same year.
