Two Arrested After Police Injured in Glasgow Brawl

Two men have been arrested and three police officers injured following a street disturbance outside a bare-knuckle fighting championship in Glasgow. Online video footage shows a group of men trading punches on the street outside the Ovo Hydro venue on Saturday evening.

Police Response and Arrests

More than 20 police vehicles and a police helicopter responded to the disorder in the Congress Road area outside the venue after receiving reports of a large disturbance at about 23:10. Three officers sustained injuries while responding, with two of them requiring medical treatment.

Police Scotland reported that a 32-year-old man and a 27-year-old man were arrested and charged with offenses including assault, obstructing police, and threatening and abusive behavior. A third man was arrested and given a recorded police warning.

Chief Inspector Paul Daley stated: “Several officers were assaulted whilst carrying out their duties during disorder following an event at the Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday night.” He added: “Violence against officers is disgraceful and will not be tolerated. Being assaulted is not part of the job and it’s extremely fortunate they were not seriously injured.”

Bare-Knuckle Fighting Event

Thousands of spectators had gathered earlier at the venue for the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) event. During the main bouts, Sean Weir from Wishaw defeated Leigh Cohoon from Manchester when the referee stopped the fight in the first round.

The two charged men are scheduled to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday. Authorities stated that inquiries remain ongoing and urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them.
