England await Guehi scan results after hip injury

Manchester City defender Marc Guehi is scheduled to undergo a scan on a hip complaint on Sunday to check if he can join the England squad this week.

Injury Concern Forces Substitution

The 26-year-old player left the pitch at half-time during Manchester City’s defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Following the match, manager Enzo Maresca stated that the centre-back had asked to be substituted due to the injury.

While Maresca did not provide specific details about the nature of the problem, sources indicate that the hip issue has bothered the defender over the past few weeks.

Impact on England’s Squad

The decision to ask for a substitution raises questions regarding his fitness for upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain. Although medical examinations are scheduled, England’s medical personnel are expected to evaluate the player directly before reaching a final verdict.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel relies heavily on the former Crystal Palace captain, who has remained a regular starter since Tuchel took charge of the national team in January 2025. Guehi featured in nearly every match during the World Cup and played in all four of England’s Nations League games held in September and October.

England is scheduled to host Croatia at Wembley on Thursday, 12 November, before heading to Madrid to play against World Cup champions Spain on Saturday, 15 November.
