Bluesky Launches Beta Moderation Inbox for Tracking Reports

Bluesky is rolling out a new beta feature designed to help users track the platform’s moderation actions in a single location. The moderation inbox collects reports filed against other users and posts, details actions taken against an account, and shows overall platform standing.

Accessing the New Moderation Inbox

Users can activate the moderation inbox by enabling beta features within the settings menu of the Bluesky app, then locating the inbox inside the moderation tools section. The inbox begins empty, even if an account has prior strikes, and populates as users file reports or as the platform takes action or applies labels to posts. Most platform decisions can be appealed directly through the app using the inbox, though account suspensions still require handling at the login screen.

According to the company, the feature aims to improve communication with users. Previously, the platform shared moderation decisions via email, which presented difficulties for individuals using independent servers and typically limited notifications to major decisions. The inbox enables direct app notifications and allows the company to communicate every step of the moderation process without filling personal email inboxes.

Platform Moderation History

While Bluesky has gained recognition for providing robust blocking tools that let users manage their personal feeds, its internal moderation approach has faced criticism. As reported by The Guardian, the platform’s automated spam system frequently deactivated accounts belonging to Palestinians raising funds for supplies, leading critics to argue the system treated individuals like bots. Users also raised concerns regarding how the platform moderated posts concerning the assassination of Charlie Kirk, suggesting that clearer in-app notifications and appeal processes could have mitigated some of the negative reactions.

In addition to the moderation inbox, the latest software update introduces an optional home screen widget that displays current trending topics.
