Sony has announced a new lineup of transparent DualSense controllers for the PlayStation 5, channeling the popular see-through tech aesthetic from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Entitled the Prism Collection, the hardware will release in three distinct color options: orange, green, and gray.
The Prism Collection Design
According to Sony, every controller is built with a high-gloss clear finish that stretches across the back panel, giving players a clear view of the internal technology driving the DualSense. A company representative explained that Sony aimed to revive the classic transparent trend of the late nineties with a contemporary approach that blends seamlessly with the industrial aesthetic of the PS5.
The transparent gamepads are accompanied by matching console plate covers available in the exact same orange, green, and gray colorways. While these exterior covers will not provide a look inside the inner mechanisms of the console itself, they provide a coordinated aesthetic alongside the controllers.
Pricing and Availability
Preorders for the entire collection open directly through PlayStation on November 10, with product shipments scheduled to arrive in February. The see-through DualSense controllers are priced at $85, while the matching console covers will cost $75.
Translucent controllers first appeared during the original PlayStation era, with subsequent PlayStation generations receiving see-through gamepad variations over the years before bringing the trend to the current PS5 hardware generation.
