Reddit is updating its platform with new tabs designed to help users navigate billions of posts. The feature introduces a split-feed layout that resembles the interface used on TikTok.
New Feed Tabs Worldwide
According to a blog post published by Reddit on Wednesday, the platform is introducing “For You” and “Following” tabs to users globally over the coming weeks. The For You tab functions as a discovery feed, combining posts from subreddits the user follows with algorithmic recommendations based on personal interests. Meanwhile, the Following tab displays content exclusively from subreddits that users have already joined. The company stated that these new feeds are part of ongoing experiments to help people explore the platform more intentionally.
Platform Changes and Bot Mitigation
The introduction of the new feeds follows several recent platform modifications that removed RSS feeds and restricted availability to the classic desktop layout known as Old Reddit. These platform changes, alongside altered third-party API access, have previously drawn user pushback regarding the site’s design evolution.
External applications must now transition to Reddit’s official developer platform to maintain access to post archives, or face losing access completely. The company is currently assisting with the migration of approximately 14,000 applications to the new framework. Reddit explained that these tighter policies are necessary to combat a sharp surge in AI-driven bot traffic that has strained its server infrastructure.
