Pauline Hanson pushes for early super access to pay rent

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has criticized the federal treasurer and his staff as hypocrites during a press conference advocating for early access to superannuation.

Push for Early Super Access

Pauline Hanson held the media briefing to promote her party’s initiative allowing Australians to utilize their retirement funds for rental payments and mortgage obligations. She told reporters that citizens are facing severe difficulties in maintaining shelter and questioned whether the nation has a duty to help them immediately with their own funds.

Hanson also targeted government officials during the conference. She stated, “I’ll raise another point what a bunch of hypocrites – [treasurer Jim] Chalmers and his staff – when members of parliament can access 3% of their super.”

Retirement Impact and Costs

Opposing the proposal, the Super Members Council calculated that an average 30-year-old employee participating in the One Nation scheme would retire with $25,000 less in savings. The council warned that reduced retirement funds would subsequently require increased government spending on the age pension, pointing out that pandemic-era withdrawals by 3 million citizens totaling nearly $38bn are projected to cost taxpayers up to $85bn by the close of the century.
