England forward Owen Trout served a one-month suspension earlier this year following a positive test for cannabis. The 27-year-old player returned an adverse analytical finding for carboxy-THC, which is a metabolite of tetrahydrocannabinol, after playing in a Super League match against Wakefield on March 20.
Suspension and Investigation Details
UK Anti-Doping notified Trout about the test results and issued a provisional suspension on May 22. During the investigation, the player admitted that he had smoked a cannabis joint and consumed a cannabis gummy during the week prior to the drug test.
UK Anti-Doping formally charged Trout on July 20. However, authorities determined that his one-month ban had already been fully served between May 22 and June 21.
Career Background
Trout, who earned his first and only England cap against Australia last year, admitted to the charge and successfully completed an approved substance of abuse treatment program. The forward is joining National Rugby League side Sharks from Leigh during the current off-season.
