Apple Reveals Touchscreen MacBook Pro with OLED Display

Apple announced its first major MacBook Pro redesign in more than five years, introducing both an OLED display and a touchscreen to macOS for the first time.

Touchscreen and Design Features

The new laptop includes touchscreen capabilities that Apple previously debated, with former CEO Steve Jobs famously opposed to the idea. Demonstration footage showed users performing multi-touch gestures like pinch-to-zoom and dragging files by reaching up to the screen. The device maintains a traditional laptop form factor rather than utilizing a 2-in-1 convertible design.

The redesign keeps a similar overall appearance to current models while reducing weight significantly. Apple stated that the 14-inch version weighs approximately 3 pounds, which is about half a pound lighter than the previous generation depending on the specific configuration.

Display Technology

Marketed as the PROLED XDR, the new OLED panel delivers a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits and features a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. While the presentation mentioned burn-in protection, specific details regarding the technology used were not disclosed. The screen preserves the 120 Hz variable refresh rate found in earlier versions.
