The new Android XR-powered Xreal Aura smartglasses are currently available for purchase, offering a special introductory discount for orders placed before the end of the year.

Features and Design

Xreal initially showcased the Aura earlier this year during Google I/O as the first wired glasses to run on the extended reality operating system co-developed by Google and Samsung, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite chip.

The glasses feature a lightweight design weighing less than 95 grams, resembling standard eyewear with a slightly thicker frame. To maintain this lightweight build, the device requires a tether to a separate external puck that handles computing and battery functions, complete with an integrated trackpad and a fingerprint sensor.

Spatial Computing and Software

According to Xreal, the Aura is designed as a versatile spatial computing wearable for productivity, entertainment, gaming, and AI-driven tasks. The operating system integrates Gemini and provides immediate access to 150 specialized XR experiences alongside standard Google Play applications.

Gaming options tailored for XR include the puzzle game Cubism and a virtual adaptation of the tabletop game Fallout: Factions. GameSir collaborated with Xreal to create a dedicated gamepad featuring a specific Gemini button for quick access to the chatbot during gameplay. Additionally, users can connect a wireless portable keyboard or plug in laptops and gaming handhelds via USB-C to display external devices within their spatial workspace alongside built-in apps.

Display and Audio Specifications

The Aura smartglasses are equipped with Micro-OLED displays offering a 70-degree field of view and a 1200p resolution at 120Hz. The built-in open-ear speakers feature audio tuning handled by Bose.

The 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model is available for $1,099 through December, down from its regular price of $1,279. Meanwhile, the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage version is priced at $1,299 for the remainder of the year instead of the standard $1,499.

Product shipments are scheduled to commence in the middle of November.
