Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has reportedly reached an agreement worth approximately $3.4 billion to acquire gas-fired power generators for data centers, as detailed in a report by the Financial Times.
Generator Commitments and Deal Structure
The artificial intelligence firm secured commitments for 1.7 gigawatts of heavy-duty power generators in late September from OnePWR Solutions, an equipment supplier located in San Antonio, Texas, according to the report. While Anthropic purchased the equipment commitments, it did not acquire OnePWR itself, and no employees from the supplier were transferred to the AI startup.
The agreement encompassed the necessary engineering and construction capabilities required to install the generators, as noted by an individual familiar with the situation cited in the report. Reuters was unable to immediately verify the report, and representatives for both Anthropic and OnePWR did not respond to requests for comment.
AI Infrastructure Expansion
Intense demand for the Claude family of artificial intelligence models has driven the company to lock in additional computing power and energy capacity. In September, a Reuters report indicated that Anthropic anticipates spending more than $500 billion over the next decade on the construction of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
