Amazon is expanding its smart home device lineup by introducing its first-ever smart alarm clock, named the Amazon Echo Time. Designed specifically for bedrooms without including cameras, the new device is available now for $200 and will begin shipping in December.
Customizable Display and Room Integration
The Echo Time resembles a standard Alexa speaker equipped with a 3.2-inch screen that users can customize with either analog or digital clock displays. These options include themed variants based on popular franchises such as Harry Potter, the DC Universe, and Scooby-Doo. The device was revealed on Wednesday alongside a revamped Echo Show, an Echo Studio, and Amazon’s first smart picture frame. Internally, the clock utilizes technology that adapts to daily routines by gradually increasing brightness in the morning and reducing blue light at night. Additionally, Amazon offers two versions built specifically for kids, featuring parental controls and the Amazon Sleep Studio for managing bedtime routines.
AI Sleep Monitoring and Flexible Alarms
The device includes optional artificial intelligence features that allow the alarm clock to manage wake-up times for users who do not need to get up at a fixed moment. Utilizing sensors that monitor room temperature, movement, and ultrasonic breathing detectors, the clock determines when to wake the user within a 60-minute window around the set wake-up time. This system can delay the alarm to let users finish a deep sleep or wake them early if it detects their sleep is no longer restful. This functionality is entirely optional and requires an Alexa Plus subscription.
