Jamie Miller says nothing feels normal anymore as he adjusts to a historic milestone after his viral song Babydoll reached number one on the UK singles chart. The 29-year-old singer became the first Welsh artist to top the chart in 15 years, fulfilling a lifelong dream following a challenging period that included stepping away from music.
Achieving Historic Chart Success
BBC News reports that Miller made chart history last week as the first Welsh artist to secure the top spot since Sian Evans featured on DJ Fresh’s track Louder. He also stands as the first solo male Welsh artist to lead the singles chart in 41 years, following Shakin’ Stevens’ festive hit Merry Christmas Everyone in 1985. The song gained massive traction on TikTok after actress Jennifer Love Hewitt posted videos featuring the track. Miller attributed the song’s widespread appeal to its honesty, noting that he took a two-year hiatus from music following difficult personal struggles.
Reflecting on his newfound fame, Miller shared that his parents are still processing the sudden change, with his father continuing to work as an Uber driver in Cardiff. He also recounted how surreal it feels to receive social media comments from Gavin and Stacey creators Ruth Jones and James Corden, having watched the show with his parents just last Christmas.
Performing on Strictly and Looking Ahead
Last weekend, Miller performed Babydoll on Strictly Come Dancing alongside Off Campus star Antonio Cipriano. The performance allowed him to reunite with presenter Emma Willis, whom he credits as one of his biggest supporters since she hosted The Voice UK, where Miller reached the final in 2017. He expressed fulfillment in showing her that he had built a successful career.
Miller is now planning a world tour, confirming that he will perform shows in Wales. He encourages fans to chase their ambitions relentlessly, advising them not to let their background or financial situation hold them back, as he transformed what once felt impossible into reality.
