US Grants Visa to Flavio Bolsonaro Following Brazil Election Loss

A senior US State Department official announced that the Trump administration will issue visas to Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and his family. The decision enables them to enter the United States following reports that Bolsonaro fled Brazil after his defeat in the presidential election.

Investigation and Political Fallout

The announcement occurred on Tuesday, just one day after Brazil’s Supreme Court instructed Bolsonaro to surrender his passports amid an investigation into suspected money laundering. Bolsonaro rejected allegations of wrongdoing, stating on Monday that he planned to remain in the country to lead the political opposition.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva condemned the right-wing senator’s departure as shameful. Lula previously asserted that members of the Bolsonaro family sought US interference in Brazilian affairs to advance their political interests.

Lula remarked that such behavior reflects the nature of the Bolsonaro family, adding that they view the United States as their primary nation rather than Brazil.

Election Results and US Reaction

Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro, initially rejected the election outcome and vowed to pursue an annulment. However, his political party issued a statement on Monday acknowledging the election results, which showed the conservative candidate losing by a margin exceeding 4.4 million votes.

US President Donald Trump questioned the validity of the vote, informing reporters that the outcome appeared to be another rigged election.

Investigations have produced no evidence of electoral fraud or malfeasance. Although critics raised concerns regarding a last-minute decision to prolong polling hours, Lula secured a decisive victory, and the extension had no meaningful impact on the final outcome.
