WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to invite friends and family members to events in the app, even if they do not have the messenger installed. When a user creates an event in WhatsApp, they can share a link with someone without the app so that person can still view all the details.
Managing Events and RSVPs
WhatsApp will let users manage their events through a new Events Home, where they can create and send invites, as well as manage RSVPs. Users can utilize the new hub to send custom reminders and include an option for guests to add a plus-one. WhatsApp states that users can view a complete list of past and upcoming events by navigating to the Settings menu and selecting Events.
Privacy and Availability
This update could position WhatsApp as a viable alternative to other event-planning platforms, such as Facebook. While Partiful and Apple Invites can also send invites to anyone, not all event planners own an iPhone or want to download a new application.
WhatsApp notes that it will not display a user’s phone number to guests they do not know, and invitees without the application will only see the event address after they RSVP. These new features are rolling out to all users in the coming weeks.
