Kraft Heinz to Sell North American Coffee Business for $650M

Kraft Heinz announced Wednesday that it will divest its North American coffee unit in a transaction valuing the business at $650 million on an enterprise basis. The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to refocus on its core brands.

Deal Details and Debt Reduction

The agreement involves private equity firm One Rock Capital Partners and encompasses well-known brands such as Maxwell House and Gevalia. According to the company’s news release, the transaction is projected to close in mid-2027, and Kraft Heinz will maintain a 30% noncontrolling equity stake in the enterprise.

Kraft Heinz stated that it plans to allocate $500 million in post-tax cash proceeds from the sale toward paying down its debts. The company aims to prioritize its resources in areas capable of driving faster growth.

“This transaction is a meaningful step in unlocking value from our portfolio and will further accelerate the momentum behind our transformation,” Steve Cahillane, CEO of Kraft Heinz, said in the release.

Leadership and Turnaround Strategy

Cahillane assumed his role in January and subsequently suspended plans to divide the company into two entities, a move that would have undone a $46 billion merger completed a decade ago. He noted that the challenges facing Kraft Heinz were fixable and within our control.

The company’s ongoing revitalization efforts involve a $700 million reinvestment back into operations alongside an increased emphasis on core brands.

Alongside the divestment announcement, Kraft Heinz released its third-quarter earnings on Wednesday, revealing results that surpassed expectations and prompting an upward revision to its 2026 outlook. The company now anticipates organic net sales to decline between 0.5% and 1.25%, marking an improvement over second-quarter projections that foresaw potential drops of up to 2%.

“Our 2026 operating plan to turn around the U.S. business and accelerate growth internationally is on track,” Cahillane said.

Following the announcements, shares of Kraft Heinz rose about 5% during Wednesday morning trading.
