Russell Brand’s Wife Defends Him in Court as Rape Trial Continues

Russell Brand’s wife, Laura, has testified in court that her husband is a caring, kind, and wonderful father to their children. Speaking at Southwark Crown Court in London, she stated that he respects her and that she loves him very much, as reported by BBC News.

Testimony on Marriage and Relationship History

The 39-year-old wife of the media personality told the jury that her husband understands her well and that she feels very seen by him. Facing seven charges including three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of attempted indecent assault, Russell Brand denies all allegations and has pleaded not guilty.

Giving evidence on Thursday, Laura Brand answered questions from the defence barrister regarding sexual consent in their marriage, confirming that her husband always respected her wishes when she did not want to be sexual. As reported by BBC News, she is the daughter of former golfer Bernard Gallacher and sister of TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, marrying the entertainer in 2017 after first meeting him at the Edinburgh festival in 2006.

Recalling their early interactions, she explained that she approached him after a show and they began a relationship soon after. She noted that while dating, she discovered he struggled with monogamy and had been seeing other women, leading them to separate for a period during which he married singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012. The couple eventually reunited in 2015.

Statements From Ex-Girlfriends and Trial Context

During the court session, statements from two of the defendant’s former girlfriends were also presented. Elia Alvarez Diaz described him in a statement as gentle, loving, and exciting, noting that he accepted her refusals when she said no, though their relationship ultimately ended due to repeated infidelity.

Another former partner, Amanda Alguero Alejos, stated that he was undoubtedly promiscuous and recalled women surrounding him even when they went out together. The ongoing trial involves allegations from six female complainants spanning from 1999 to 2009. The jury is expected to retire to consider verdicts on Tuesday, following the defendant’s own testimony earlier in the week where he emphasized that sexual consent is fundamental.
