$11.4M Nvidia Hardware Cargo Disappears in Transit

A commercial freight shipment containing Nvidia hardware valued at $11.4 million vanished during transport from Oakland, California, to Texas late this summer. Over two months following the incident, law enforcement authorities have not announced any arrests or located the missing cargo.

Disappearance Along the Transit Route

According to reporting from The Mercury News, six pallets of unspecified Nvidia products were loaded on August 29 for delivery to Fort Worth, Texas. The shipment was picked up on schedule by a commercial truck displaying the branding of a food transport company before disappearing from monitoring systems. The loss was discovered in early September after the intended recipients realized the delivery had failed to arrive.

Investigators attempting to reconstruct the vehicle’s path discovered that the driver made several multi-hour stops after leaving the pickup location. Tracking was ultimately lost entirely while the vehicle was traveling through San Bernardino County, California.

Surge in High-Value Electronics Thefts

The Oakland Police Department confirmed that a formal grand theft report was filed on September 13 and stated that the investigation remains active. Authorities have not publicly identified the specific models of Nvidia hardware taken, nor have they detailed the exact methods used to execute the theft.

The theft follows an escalating pattern of sophisticated logistics targeting high-end electronics. As reported by Ars Technica, organized theft rings have intercepted more than $100 million worth of comparable technology shipments since June. Investigators cited by NBC News noted that criminal groups have utilized advanced methods, such as spoofing GPS coordinates and staging collisions with private security escorts, before stripping the stolen parts to sell on gray markets or smuggling them to foreign territories where access to advanced American hardware faces trade barriers.
