Vivo continues to expand its lineup of high-specification camera smartphones with the launch of the X500 Pro Max, a device that emphasizes advanced videography features and hardware upgrades. As Engadget reported, the new phone introduces attachable telephoto lenses, cage grips, and continued collaboration with lens maker Zeiss to rival competitors in the mobile photography market.

Advanced Camera and Videography Features

The primary camera upgrade centers on a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, delivering 17 stops of dynamic range through the sensor’s LOFIC technology. The device also includes a 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 1/1.75-inch sensor and a 200MP 1/1.4-inch periscope telephoto sensor that provides lossless zoom up to 10x magnification. For stabilization, the main sensor incorporates three-degree gimbal-grade stabilization, while the telephoto camera features CIPA 7-rated optical image stabilization (OIS) to optimize long zoom and low-light performance.

Video capabilities are a core component of the X500 Pro Max, featuring a “Pro Video Mode” that supports custom LUTs with real-time previews and an ACES workflow for professional video creators. The upgraded processor enables 4K recording at up to 240 fps, doubling the 120 fps limit of the previous X300 Ultra. In terms of image output, Engadget noted that photos appear vibrant with increased contrast, though highlight suppression can occasionally create an overly augmented look, and AI interference remains visible when utilizing telephoto attachments.

Hardware Design and Performance

Physically, the X500 Pro Max maintains a similar design to recent Vivo devices while introducing a dot-matrix effect across the rear glass panel. Under the hood, the device runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro 2nm processor and houses a 7,800mAh battery in supported regions, which supports up to 90W charging and bypass charging for intensive tasks like gaming or high-resolution video recording. The smartphone features a 6.85-inch display with a resolution of 1,440 x 3,168, a 144Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ support, and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, alongside IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings.

Software Limitations and Global Availability

Software remains a notable drawback on the X500 Pro Max through its custom skin, Origin OS 7, which frequently displays unsolicited tips and includes proprietary storefronts like the V-App Store that feature pop-up advertisements. While Vivo promotes the release as a global launch, availability remains restricted to select territories such as Spain, Brazil, India, Austria, Italy, Singapore, and Hong Kong, with no planned releases for the US or UK.
