Multi-hyphenate artist Vic Mensa has built a diverse career spanning music, acting, podcasting, and activism. From releasing his debut mixtape Innanetape on major streaming platforms to starring in television series and hosting The Vic Mensa Show, the artist relies heavily on a single smartphone application to keep his prolific output organized.

The Power of Voice Memos

When asked about his most indispensable tool, Mensa revealed that everything starts in the Voice Memos app. He uses it to capture songs, essay concepts, spontaneous thoughts, late-night voice notes, and memorable quotes from his son. Although he described his phone as a collection of distractions, he considers Voice Memos to be an honest space where he can record ideas before they vanish.

Social Media and Tech Opinions

Mensa named Instagram as the social media platform he uses most frequently, noting that it became the foundation for his conversational format where he discusses politics, history, music, grief, humor, and fatherhood. He credited the positive response on Instagram for helping pave the way for his podcast. On the other hand, when asked which tech trend he wishes would disappear, he pointed to Meta glasses, stating they seem designed for negative purposes.

Creative Work and Focus Habits

Currently, the creator takes the most pride in his upcoming album, marking the first time he has fully dedicated himself to producing. He is equally excited about the surrounding art, videos, design, clothing, and overall world-building for the project. To achieve focus, Mensa turns to either the Shambhavi Mahamudra meditation learned from Sadhguru or the Wim Hof breathing method, ideally combining Wim Hof breathing in a steam room followed by meditation.

Offering advice on spending, Mensa advocates investing in daily essentials such as a quality mattress, good headphones, nutritious food, long-lasting clothing, and experiences with his child. When asked for a potential biopic tagline, he suggested, “Live from the contradiction.”
