The RedMagic 12 Pro was announced on Tuesday with a starting price of $949, introducing one of the largest phone batteries available on the US market.

Display, Design, and Performance

The new gaming device houses an 8,400-mAh battery, surpassing the 7,500-mAh capacity of the previous RedMagic 11 Pro and completely overshadowing the 5,000-mAh units typically found in mainstream flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

This high-capacity power source drives a 6.85-inch screen that supports a 1.5K resolution alongside a 185Hz refresh rate. This configuration ensures that compatible games appear exceptionally smooth, building on previous gaming handsets that featured 165Hz capabilities. Following its design tradition, RedMagic places the 16-megapixel front camera beneath the display, giving the device the appearance of a compact television without any screen cutouts.

Selected titles such as PUBG Mobile will support the 185Hz refresh rate, whereas other games like Genshin Impact and Asphalt Legends receive optimization for enhanced graphics settings. Similar to earlier models, the device includes two capacitive shoulder sensors that function as mappable buttons for actions in titles like Call of Duty Mobile and Fortnite.

Processor and Pricing

The 12 Pro stands among the initial devices to launch in the US equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. To manage internal temperatures during high-graphics gaming sessions, the handset combines a 25,500-rpm internal cooling fan with a liquid cooling system. The rear panel features a 50-megapixel main camera accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens.

The upgraded battery, processor, and display contribute to a notable increase in the starting price, with the $949 tag applying to the version featuring 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. For comparison, the RedMagic 11S Pro debuted last spring at $849 for the equivalent configuration. Higher tiers cost $1,049 for 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, or $1,199 for a 1TB capacity. These price adjustments stem largely from an ongoing RAM shortage affecting electronic device manufacturing costs.

Software Support and Availability

Although the 12 Pro comes loaded with Android 17, the manufacturer provides a relatively brief software support window for this price tier, committing to two years of software updates and three years of security patches. Competing devices priced above $700, including offerings from Samsung and Google, commonly provide seven years of software and security maintenance.

Following the Tuesday announcement, an early bird voucher period begins on November 12 for customers planning to purchase the device during the official release on November 17, ahead of the general open sale scheduled for November 18.
