Perplexity has rolled out personal AI agents called “teammates,” which are built to handle continuous work autonomously requiring little oversight. These agents operate within Perplexity Computer, the cloud-based assistant platform by the company capable of executing multi-step tasks. According to Perplexity, these new agents expand upon the Computer system by adding features tailored for large-scale, ongoing operations.
Collaborative AI Agents and Background Operations
Users can assign individual roles or tasks to each teammate, allowing multiple agents to run simultaneously. These teammates cooperate with one another, and certain agents can even supervise others to ensure tasks progress smoothly. As workload increases, they can recruit additional teammates and organize the new arrivals’ responsibilities accordingly.
Operating continuously around the clock in the background, teammates alert users whenever decisions are required. Each agent maintains a dedicated entry in the Computer sidebar, displaying active processes as well as completed tasks. Users can assign additional duties, instruct agents to change direction, or request status updates through these interface threads. Currently, the feature is limited to Perplexity Max subscribers using the web and iOS platforms, requiring a subscription fee of $200 per month or $2,000 annually.
