Detroit linebacker Jack Campbell hospitalized with neck injury

Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was taken to a hospital for treatment on a neck injury following an NFL match against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Injury and Medical Evacuation

Campbell sustained the injury during the fourth quarter when his head was struck while he made a tackle on tight end TJ Hockenson. Medical staff hurried to his aid as he lay face down on the field.

Teammates and a majority of the Lions coaching staff gathered around him as he received medical care. The 26-year-old player was then placed on a stretcher, loaded onto a cart, and driven off the pitch to applause from the crowd.

The team verified that Campbell was transported to a medical facility, where he stayed overnight. A statement from the Lions noted that he was resting and undergoing continued evaluation and monitoring, with further updates to follow.

Team Reactions and Player Background

Head coach Dan Campbell, who is not related to the player, stated that the entire organization’s thoughts were with the linebacker and his family. The coach added that the player was receiving proper care, though no further details were available.

Jack Campbell joined the Lions as the 18th overall draft pick in 2023 and secured a contract extension this May that runs through the 2030 campaign. During the previous season, he earned an All-Pro selection after recording over 150 tackles, at least five sacks, and three forced fumbles, becoming the first NFL player to reach those combined numbers in seven years.

The Lions secured a 19-15 victory in Sunday’s fixture, though teammates DJ Wonnum and Brian Branch also sustained concussions during the contest.
