Apple Music is set to roll out a new feature that enables users to record themselves singing karaoke directly within the app. Dubbed “Selfie Sing,” the upcoming function builds upon the karaoke capability that Apple introduced in 2022.
Recording and Sharing Karaoke Performances
As reported by MacRumors and detailed by Engadget, Selfie Sing arrives with iOS 27.3, which is currently in beta testing. The tool allows users to capture videos of themselves singing along to tracks while real-time lyrics scroll up the screen. Unlike the broader catalog available for standard listening, the feature launches with a curated playlist of well-known tracks. According to the company’s description, the playlist features familiar hits intended for group sing-alongs, including Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time,” and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.”
Customizing Vocals and Audio Effects
To use the feature, users select a song and enable their device’s camera to begin recording. Before saving or sharing the final video with friends, performers can adjust vocal volumes and apply various audio effects such as Megaphone, Echo, Concert Hall, and Studio.
Alongside Selfie Sing, the upcoming iOS 27.3 update brings additional enhancements to iPhones, including a redesigned Health app and new Siri artificial intelligence features. The mobile operating system is expected to receive a public release in December.
