Android Auto might soon bring professional responsibilities into vehicles following the discovery of an experimental feature. According to an Engadget report detailing an Android Authority teardown of Android Auto version 18.0.664204, developers found a hidden Work Mode tile pointing toward potential Work Profile controls.
Work Profile Restrictions and Video Conferencing
An Android Work Profile separates employer-managed applications from personal data on employee-owned devices by using briefcase badges. Users can verify if they have a profile by checking for separate tabs in the app drawer or through device settings. However, managed profiles currently cause limitations for communication software.
Microsoft states that Teams supports vehicle audio calls and meetings, but this integration fails when the application resides inside a managed Work Profile. Google Meet features a different limitation where active calls appear on the vehicle dashboard, but upcoming meetings and history from that profile remain hidden.
Potential Controls and Limitations
A dashboard toggle could eventually allow drivers to mute professional alerts during the evening commute while keeping personal navigation and music active. Currently, users can pause managed apps manually using the Work tab or Quick Settings, and certain devices permit scheduling through Digital Wellbeing.
Google has not confirmed when or if the experimental dashboard tile will officially launch or what exact controls it will provide. Even if the feature debuts, vehicle safety restrictions and IT administrator rules will continue to govern which software programs remain accessible while driving.
