Donald Trump spent Tuesday evening lashing out at Fox News after Democrats swept aside their GOP opponents in deep red states to take control of the House and Senate. The president wrote on Truth Social that Fox bore responsibility for the losses by repeatedly featuring the opposition, later calling into the network to congratulate Democrats on their election results.
Trump Rejects Blame as Allies and Pundits React
Trump maintained that the historic blowout was not a reflection of his own popularity, posting that he was not on the ballot and arguing that a personal run would have resulted in a landslide victory. He also shared an image of a red baseball hat featuring the word VETO on the front. However, the outcome triggered an immediate and vocal revolt across the MAGA movement.
Right-wing podcaster Matt Walsh described the results as a political catastrophe of historic proportions while labeling Trump an 80-year-old lame-duck president. Walsh pointed to Trump’s decision to initiate a war with Iran and his focus on trivial matters, such as attempting to rename artificial intelligence super intelligence and the White House ballroom, as primary factors in the defeat. Right-wing commentator Mike Cernovich similarly blamed Trump for alienating libertarian voters.
Disgraced former national security adviser Mike Flynn wrote on X that someone needed to look in a mirror while also criticizing Christians for failing to turn out and vote. Meanwhile, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones launched a severe attack on the president during his show, stating that he was 100 percent at war with Trump and branding him the ultimate Democrat sleeper cell.
Division and Silence Across the Right
Other prominent right-wing commentators, including Jack Posobiec and Nick Sortor, blamed the war with Iran for the losses without directly naming Trump in their posts. Former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene openly blamed the president on X, stating that the election served as a total referendum on Trump.
Other major figures maintained silence or deflected blame elsewhere. Elon Musk, who poured hundreds of millions of dollars into supporting losing Republican candidates, did not assign blame, though he joked that his election-interfering space lasers failed and noted that exit polling showed the Iran war was a massive losing issue. High-profile influencer Rogan O’Handley and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson offered no direct attribution for the defeat. While White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller remained publicly silent, his wife, Katie Miller, blamed the media as a propaganda arm of the woke left.
Conversely, a few figures staunchly defended the president. Influencer Laura Loomer praised Trump for stopping Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, while former Fox News host Lara Logan blamed an anonymous group of Republicans for conspiring to defeat the party and sideline the MAGA movement. Chaya Raichik attributed the losses to a long-running Democrat plot involving immigration, and Kari Lake continued to promote unverified claims of election fraud. Finally, former homeland security secretary Kristi Noem accepted personal responsibility on X, arguing that the party suffered losses because it was too successful during the first year of the Trump administration.
