Apple Intelligence Launches in China With iOS 27.3

Apple will introduce Apple Intelligence in China alongside the release of iOS 27.3, according to an announcement on the company’s Chinese newsroom website reported by MacRumors. The artificial intelligence features are scheduled to debut initially through an iOS 27.3 beta release on November 4th, followed by a public rollout in December.

Features Coming to China

The initial launch does not include the updated Siri artificial intelligence assistant for users in China. Rather, Apple is deploying earlier AI capabilities such as notification summaries, real-time translation, proofreading and rewriting utilities, visual intelligence, and photo object removal. Additionally, Apple stated that it collaborated with Alibaba to incorporate support for the Qwen chatbot within specific functions, mirroring the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT that rolled out in iOS in 2024.

Regulatory Approval and Local Development

Regulatory approval for Apple Intelligence in China was granted in July, indicating that the rollout of the artificial intelligence tools was approaching. Reuters reported in August that Apple developed and trained a proprietary large language model tailored specifically for the Chinese market.
