VRChat has released the findings from a user survey concerning artificial intelligence on the virtual reality platform, revealing that 95 percent of respondents favor some form of AI labeling. However, according to Engadget, the company stated that it currently has no plans to introduce such tags.
Survey Results and Company Stance
The platform, which allows users to build and share virtual worlds for social engagement, published a support post outlining community feedback. While the vast majority of surveyed users want clear designations for AI content, VRChat decided against implementing tags to label or filter out artificial intelligence from search results.
The company is still evaluating whether to introduce a label for human-created content and a dedicated field for tools used, though it has not reached a final decision. According to Engadget, the platform’s creators explained that while honest creators would use tags appropriately, others might attempt to misrepresent generative work as entirely hand-crafted.
Furthermore, developers expressed concern that labeling features would encourage users to investigate and hunt down AI content, potentially leading to harassment against creators who do not use artificial intelligence tools at all.
Platform Changes and Community Standards
Instead of adopting an AI labeling policy, VRChat intends to implement updates that achieved strong community consensus. These approved modifications include more accurate thumbnails, improved discovery tools, and prioritizing quality as a core metric.
VRChat enables users to produce various projects, ranging from filmmaking to safe spaces for transgender communities. At the same time, the platform has faced criticism and accusations regarding the presence of toxic and predatory behavior.
