YouTuber Jacksepticeye on Acting, AI and Internet Culture

Seán McLoughlin, known to 31 million subscribers as the YouTuber Jacksepticeye, has branched out into acting and film production while reflecting on how internet culture has shifted since he began uploading videos in 2012. As reported by BBC News, McLoughlin discussed his latest entertainment projects and his views on modern digital communities.

Stepping Into Video Games and Film Production

Following a role in the 2025 superhero adventure Dispatch, McLoughlin has secured a new role in the game Hitman, developed by Danish studio IO Interactive. He portrays a controversial content creator named Finn Colton, also known as Finnvictus, who serves as one of the game’s celebrity elusive targets. While the fictional character shares his likeness and voice, McLoughlin stated that the manosphere-adjacent influencer is not based on him. Players are tasked with hunting down the character in various ways, with McLoughlin noting that it provides a fun interactive experience regardless of whether players like or dislike him. This follows a brief cameo earlier this year in the developer’s James Bond game, 007: First Light.

Earlier this year, McLoughlin was also announced as a producer for an animated film adaptation of the acclaimed video game Bloodborne. Although some fans initially questioned his credentials, McLoughlin reassured them by highlighting his deep fandom, evidenced by a Hunter’s Mark tattoo. He described his role as a vibe-checker to ensure the adaptation maintains the correct atmosphere and world of the original title. He explained that he prefers to select team members who understand the game intimately, adding that his instincts naturally align with the producing side of the project.

Views on Physical Games, AI and Online Anger

Video game industry shifts are also impacting creators, including the growing trend toward digital-only releases, accelerated by the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 without a physical disc at launch. McLoughlin expressed sadness at the potential disappearance of physical games, highlighting the magical experience of browsing PlayStation cases on a bedroom shelf. Regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence in video game development, following announcements from Fortnite maker Epic Games, McLoughlin stated he is strongly opposed to its use and believes the chances of a Jacksepticeye Fortnite skin are entirely non-existent.

Reflecting on broader changes online, McLoughlin told BBC News that he is saddened by the rise of anti-communities and an internet climate that quickly jumps to anger and condemnation without nuance. He suggested this hostility stems from general real-world anxieties and a world where people are angry at everything, resulting in a less whimsical digital space. To counter this negativity, McLoughlin is reviving his annual Thankmas fundraiser in December to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, providing a small point of light amidst global challenges while also stepping back from giving his opinion on every topic.
