Trump Reportedly Ignored Intel on China Spy Targeting Nvidia CEO

Donald Trump reportedly chose to ignore intelligence regarding a Chinese spy plot targeting Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to protect the company’s stock and avoid disrupting trade relations.

Intelligence Briefing and the Suspected Spy

According to The New York Times, sources briefed on US intelligence agencies’ surveillance revealed that Trump was informed about a year ago that Beijing was receiving reports from an individual with direct access to Huang. That individual was identified as Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, who is a Chinese citizen and former top executive at Megaspeed, a Singapore cloud company.

US investigators already suspected that Alice Huang, who bears no relation to Jensen Huang, assisted China in evading export controls to secure high-end Nvidia chips via Megaspeed. Investigators grew alarmed upon discovering she potentially leveraged her position to gain direct access to the Nvidia chief executive.

Potential Influence on US Policy

Intelligence officials believe the suspect may have used her closeness with Jensen Huang to provide China with information about a leading American AI firm and to shape Trump’s perspective on artificial intelligence. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted ahead of Trump’s AI discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping that the president maintains a complete alignment with Nvidia’s CEO.

Sources indicated that Trump opted to take no action with the intelligence, driven partly by concerns that penalizing the alleged espionage could impair Nvidia chip sales or destabilize the fragile US-China trade truce.
