Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Targeted by Alleged Chinese Spy

US intelligence agencies believe the chief executive of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, has been targeted by an alleged Chinese spy who previously did business with him, according to a report by the New York Times.

Alleged Chinese Intelligence Asset

Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le and no relation to the Nvidia CEO, works as an executive at Megaspeed, a Singapore-based datacenter company. American officials began monitoring her after she was previously suspected of smuggling Nvidia chips into China. Unnamed sources told the New York Times that investigators ultimately concluded she operated as a Chinese intelligence asset by transmitting commercial information to Beijing.

Through their surveillance operations, US officials discovered that Alice Huang had cultivated a close relationship with Nvidia’s chief executive. Nvidia produces powerful microchips that form the foundation of the artificial intelligence boom, making Jensen Huang one of the technology sector’s most powerful leaders. This role has enabled him to form a close partnership with Donald Trump as the American government works to protect its status as a leader in artificial intelligence technology.

White House Concerns and Export Restrictions

According to the New York Times, White House officials grew concerned over Alice Huang’s access to the Nvidia chief precisely because of his close association with Trump. The Trump administration previously enacted restrictions on sending advanced artificial intelligence processors to China citing national security concerns. Megaspeed’s executive was suspected of assisting the Chinese government in bypassing those trade limitations.

In a statement issued to the New York Times, Nvidia maintained that the chief executive’s interactions with Alice Huang were entirely standard. The company spokesperson stated that meeting with clients forms part of a chief executive’s daily responsibilities and that Jensen Huang speaks with thousands of customer leaders annually. Megaspeed and similar clients obtain standard business data rather than sensitive company trade secrets or any information pertaining to national security.
