Harry Kane Would Swap Ballon d’Or for Champions League Title

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has stated that he would gladly trade his newly won Ballon d’Or trophy for a Champions League winner’s medal. The 33-year-old recently became the first Englishman since 2001 to claim the prestigious accolade, surpassing competitors such as Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal.

Prioritizing Team Success

Speaking to a news conference ahead of Bayern’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital, Kane emphasized that collective achievements remain his ultimate priority. He described winning the Ballon d’Or in London as one of the best moments of his life and career, joining an elite group of Englishmen including Michael Owen, Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, and Kevin Keegan.

However, when asked to choose between the European Cup and the individual honor, the England captain told BBC Sport: “I would choose the Champions League, but I have the opportunity to do both – let’s see what happens.” Both Bayern and their fans celebrated his achievement before their recent fixture against Borussia Dortmund, marking the club’s first Ballon d’Or winner since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981.

Kane described the past week as a rollercoaster following his 73-goal haul last season that helped Bayern secure a domestic treble. He noted that the extreme highs and lows experienced by the club recently have ultimately brought the squad closer together.

Contract Talks and Manager’s Absence

Addressing his club future, Kane revealed that he is “extremely close” to signing a new contract with Bayern following positive discussions. He explained that major points have been resolved, with legal teams currently finalizing minor details, and expects an announcement within the next few days.

Meanwhile, Bayern’s preparations continue without head coach Vincent Kompany, who collapsed during a training session with the reserve team on 23 October. Although the Belgian coach was discharged from the hospital after five days, his return date remains unconfirmed, leaving assistant Aaron Danks in charge of first-team duties.

Kane admitted that missing their manager presents a challenge for the squad, but he expressed confidence that the team is handling the situation well while awaiting Kompany’s eventual return.
