Carlos Alcaraz secured a straight-set victory against Alex de Minaur to claim the Vienna Open title and extend his flawless record in ATP 500 tournaments this season. The Spanish second seed completed a 6-1 6-4 triumph in 87 minutes, marking his 16th consecutive victory at this tier in 2026.
Dominant Run at ATP 500 Events
Alcaraz extended his winning streak at ATP 500 events to 26 matches, a sequence stretching back to the 2025 Barcelona Open where he was defeated by Holger Rune. The 23-year-old’s impressive campaign in this category this year features championship titles in both Doha and Tokyo.
“I tried to be aggressive and show him that if he wants to win, he has to play better, more aggressive, more solid, and be smarter than me,” Alcaraz said to BBC Sport.
“I’m just really happy that at the end I found my way, played great, and obviously it has been a really emotional and amazing week for me,” he added.
Match Winning Performance
Alcaraz established early momentum as his powerful groundstrokes troubled De Minaur. Although De Minaur pushed five of the seven games in the opening set to deuce, Alcaraz capitalized on crucial opportunities to break serve three times.
The pressure persisted into the second set. While the 27-year-old Australian utilized his renowned defense to save three break points, he ultimately failed to neutralize the championship point.
Following an intense baseline exchange, Alcaraz drove a cross-court forehand winner past his opponent to secure the championship, immediately raising both arms in celebration. This result marks Alcaraz’s seventh career victory over De Minaur, preserving his unblemished head-to-head record against the Australian.
