Pokémon Unite Shutting Down in March 2027

Another live-service game is coming to an end as Pokémon Unite prepares to shut down on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC, which translates to 8 PM ET on March 22.

Game History and Upcoming Farewell

The multiplayer online battle arena game, styled after League of Legends with five-on-five team matches, originally launched on the Nintendo Switch in July 2021 before expanding to mobile devices a few months later with cross-platform support. During matches, players select different Pokémon that evolve and acquire new abilities over the course of the game, securing a nearly six-year run in the current live-service landscape.

Earlier in July, The Pokémon Company revealed that the title would not feature in the 2027 Pokémon World Championships, choosing a separate tournament in Tokyo instead, which still maintains scheduled qualifier tournaments beginning in December. Built through a collaboration with Tencent’s TiMi Studios, the free-to-play title utilized battle passes, cosmetics, and gems for monetization.

Monetization Changes and Data Preservation

Gem sales alongside new Unite Club memberships and auto-renewals ceased immediately. Previously purchased gems remain usable until the shutdown takes place, and current Club members retain their benefits until their subscriptions expire, while a final update scheduled for November 12 will introduce a special farewell event.

A new Library feature arriving with the final update allows players to continue viewing certain in-game items after the service ends. However, users must log in beforehand to download this Library data, and because the information lives on local devices, it generally cannot be transferred to a new device, as noted by The Pokémon Company.
