Wonder, the food startup founded by billionaire entrepreneur Marc Lore, has confidentially filed for an initial public offering.
Acquisitions and Funding
The company has poured a minimum of $1 billion into various acquisitions. These purchases include meal kit brand Blue Apron, delivery service Grubhub, logistics and delivery provider Relay, and several popular restaurant concepts.
Wonder financed these costly acquisitions by securing over $3 billion in venture capital. A Series D fundraising round earlier in the year propelled the company’s pre-money valuation to $9 billion.
Market Outlook and Leadership
Marc Lore explained to CNBC in September that capital from an IPO would enable the company to pursue further acquisitions and advance its mission of expanding food accessibility.
Transitioning to a public entity means Wonder will encounter heightened investor scrutiny. Broader market volatility has created an unstable IPO landscape across multiple sectors, while recent restaurant stocks have struggled amid weak consumer sentiment.
Prior to establishing Wonder, Lore founded Diapers.com and Jet.com, which were subsequently acquired by Amazon and Walmart.
