Moyes Says Grealish Can Still Have Everton Future

Everton manager David Moyes has stated that a return remains possible for Jack Grealish at the club, though his exact return date is currently uncertain.

Disciplinary Issue and Recent Absences

The former England midfielder missed both of the Toffees’ consecutive victories over Newcastle over the past week following a disciplinary matter. The 31-year-old Manchester City loanee was omitted from Thursday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win due to a club decision stemming from what was believed to be an unauthorized training absence. Grealish was absent once again on Monday for the Premier League fixture at St James’ Park, where Everton secured a 1-0 win courtesy of a goal from Thierno Barry.

While the club attributed his latest absence to a lack of fitness, Moyes remained guarded when speaking to BBC Sport at full-time. Moyes stated that the player is currently unavailable and mentioned that a decision regarding his return will be made in consultation with the club. When questioned directly about whether fitness was the sole factor, Moyes reiterated that he could only confirm the player’s unavailability. Pressed further on whether the disciplinary situation had been resolved, Moyes responded that he could not comment on the matter.

Uncertain Return and Career Background

Everton’s upcoming fixture is a home match against Coventry on Friday, and Moyes remains unsure if Grealish will be ready to feature. However, when specifically asked if a way back exists for the player at the club, Moyes confirmed that of course there is.

Grealish is currently working to rebuild his career with Everton after falling out of favor at Manchester City, despite commanding a £100m transfer fee in 2021. The midfielder played an integral part in helping City achieve the 2022-23 Treble, and his contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season. He previously netted two goals across 22 appearances for Everton last term during a loan stint that was prematurely ended by injury. He returned to Goodison Park for a second loan spell this campaign, though he had managed only six appearances before dropping out of the squad.
