While an Amazon Prime subscription offers fast shipping and exclusive deals, paying the standard $14.99 monthly fee can feel steep if you rarely use it. Fortunately, there are several legitimate ways to secure a Prime membership for free or at a significantly lower cost.
Trials and Discounted Plans
As reported by Engadget, Amazon’s standard 30-day free trial gives new users immediate access to fast shipping, discounts, Alexa improvements, and Prime Video without any upfront cost. Subscribers must input a payment method and cancel before the renewal date to avoid automatic charges, and Amazon does not specify a waiting period for former subscribers to qualify for future trials.
Young adults between 18 and 24, as well as students of any age, can sign up for Prime for Young Adults, which provides a six-month free trial before dropping to $7.49 per month or $69 annually. Additionally, Prime Access offers a $6.99 monthly rate after a 30-day free trial for qualifying government assistance recipients, such as SNAP or Medicaid beneficiaries, or those who meet specific income requirements.
Household Sharing and Alternative Perks
Households with an existing subscriber can utilize Amazon Family to share select benefits, including fast shipping and Prime Video, with another adult at the same address without sharing login credentials. However, this feature requires sharing a payment method, and free trial users cannot share these benefits.
Employment benefits and partner programs also offer savings opportunities. Eligible Amazon employees receive free memberships, and Whole Foods will extend this benefit to hourly workers starting January 1, 2027. While Metro by T-Mobile stopped offering bundled Prime to new customers in September 2026, legacy users can retain the perk.
Credit card perks and rewards programs provide additional avenues for savings. Existing Navy Federal Visa Signature Flagship Rewards cardholders receive a $139 statement credit toward an annual Prime membership, though the card’s annual fee increased to $95 in November 2026. Other options include redeeming Microsoft Rewards points for Amazon gift cards, earning 5 percent back with the Amazon Prime Visa, or pairing a subscription with Spectrum’s Internet Assist plan for low-income customers.
