US President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a 15-year-old boy who was killed in a Bronx neighborhood earlier this week, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Saturday.
Tragic Incident in the Bronx
Javits Frimpong relocated to New York from Ghana in the previous year to live with his father and start a new life in the United States, as stated by Representative Ritchie Torres, a Democrat representing the Bronx.
New York City police reported that Frimpong suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen on Thursday morning while walking to school and subsequently passed away at the hospital.
Law enforcement authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the case thus far, and police investigations into the shooting remain ongoing.
Visa Arrangement and Official Responses
Mayor Mamdani shared the development on the social media platform X, stating that he had just concluded a phone conversation with President Trump regarding the matter.
Mamdani wrote on X that the murder of a child represents a pain no parent should ever experience, especially from thousands of miles away, adding that Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves the opportunity to bid her son a final farewell in person.
The tragic death prompted widespread sorrow across New York, with Representative Torres expressing that the entire borough is grieving for a young man who possessed his entire future ahead of him.
The White House has not yet issued a statement regarding the telephone call between Trump and Mamdani.
Family Background and Diplomatic Coordination
Thomas Frimpong described his son as a quiet individual and mentioned that the teenager had faced bullying at school from two other boys.
Ghanaian Foreign Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa also took to X to express his gratitude to both Mamdani and Trump.
He noted that officials from Ghana were actively coordinating with Javits Frimpong’s mother to provide assistance throughout her visa application procedure.
