Sergio Perez Extends Cadillac Contract Until 2029

Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year contract extension with Cadillac that will keep him with the team until 2029. The announcement coincides with the 36-year-old driver preparing for his 300th Grand Prix start at his home race in Mexico City this weekend.

Career Background and Cadillac Move

Perez joined the American Formula One team last August ahead of their debut season, partnering with fellow veteran Valtteri Bottas. His Formula One career began in 2011, and he has secured six grand prix victories throughout his time in the sport. These include five wins with Red Bull from 2021 to 2024 and a single victory with Racing Point, which is now Aston Martin, in 2020.

During his career highlights, Perez claimed third place in the 2022 drivers’ championship and finished as runner-up behind his team-mate Max Verstappen in 2023. However, Red Bull dropped him at the conclusion of the 2024 season despite having two years remaining on his agreement, as the team concluded he could no longer adequately support Verstappen.

Current Season and Driver Remarks

During the current 2026 season, Perez currently occupies the bottom position in the standings. His highest finishes so far are three 14th-place results achieved in Barcelona, Silverstone, and Azerbaijan, and neither he nor Bottas has scored a championship point for Cadillac.

Expressing his dedication to the project, Perez stated that becoming part of Cadillac from its inception was an initiative he genuinely believed in, describing the extension as a natural progression.

“Building a Formula One team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding,” Perez stated, as reported by BBC Sport.

He added that considerable effort remains ahead and confirmed his total dedication to the upcoming three years.
