England fast bowler Josh Tongue will miss the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia due to a toe injury. The 28-year-old picked up the injury during last month’s tri-series in Pakistan and missed the final two matches.
Injury Recovery and Schedule
Tongue will head back to the United Kingdom to undergo further assessments and will sit out both the one-day and T20 fixtures in Australia. The tour kicks off with a one-day international in Perth on November 13.
Having claimed 46 wickets across 17 matches this year, Tongue is expected to recover in time for the three-match Test series in South Africa starting in December, with that squad announcement due next week. This upcoming white-ball tour of Australia represents England’s first visit to the country since their defeat in the 2025-26 Ashes series.
Coach Brendon McCullum previously stated his intention to field a strong side for the ODI portion of the Australia trip as part of preparations for the World Cup in southern Africa next year. The New Zealander also acknowledged that squad rotation would be necessary for the T20 matches because of a demanding winter schedule featuring five separate overseas tours.
Warm-Up Match Victory
Adil Rashid claimed four wickets as England defeated Western Australia by 92 runs in a one-day warm-up fixture in Perth. The 38-year-old, who missed the last three games of the October tour across Pakistan and Sri Lanka, demonstrated his value in Australian conditions by finishing with figures of 4-35.
Fast bowler Jofra Archer contributed 3-34 to help guide England to a comfortable victory. The batting innings proved less straightforward as England slumped to 251 all out following an unpolished display. Ben Duckett led the scoring with 49 runs, while Liam Dawson remained unbeaten on 44.
Western Australia started strongly, reaching 60-1 before Rashid dismantled the batting lineup by taking wickets in quick succession, including dismissing Jayden Goodwin and Ashton Turner off consecutive deliveries. Archer subsequently wrapped up the lower order, bowling out the hosts for 159 to seal the win.
