A gas leak triggered by a vehicle crashing into a restaurant in central Liverpool has prompted road closures and the evacuation of nearby properties.
Crash Causes Gas Leak and Evacuations
The collision occurred around 12:30 GMT on North John Street when a Peugeot automobile collided with the storefront window of Tiger Rock Restaurant, according to Merseyside Police.
Authorities stated that the driver remained at the location and investigators found no signs suggesting the crash was intentional.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service reported that three individuals inside the establishment during the impact were evaluated for minor injuries.
A service representative explained that the collision triggered a gas leak, prompting police and firefighters to establish a safety cordon while awaiting the arrival of a structural engineer and a gas engineer.
Road Closures and Public Transport Disruptions
As a safety measure, authorities evacuated adjacent buildings and implemented road closures at the intersection of Dale Street and North John Street, as well as the junction connecting North John Street and Lord Street.
Bus routes experienced temporary diversions, with all Wirral Metro services ending their routes at Whitechapel and initiating return trips from Sir Thomas Street.
