Meta has announced that the final operating system update for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets is scheduled for release by March 2027. The company stated that version 213 will serve as the final OS update for both hardware devices.
Support Timeline and App Submissions
Following the final OS update, Meta intends to provide security patches and critical bug fixes through the conclusion of 2027. Additionally, developers can continue submitting applications that support the Quest 2 or Quest Pro through December 2027.
Meta designated the newer Quest 3 and Quest 3S devices as the new foundation for its virtual reality gaming ecosystem. The announcement precedes the anticipated launch of Meta’s upcoming VR glasses, which are scheduled for a spring 2027 release.
Product History
Reflecting on the legacy hardware, Meta noted that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro established the foundation for the platform and retain millions of active users. The company emphasized that the Quest 3 and Quest 3S offer enhanced performance headroom and built-in mixed reality, while applications developed for them will transition to the upcoming Meta VR glasses running on identical operating systems and software development kits.
Meta originally introduced the Quest 2 in 2020 followed by the Quest Pro in 2022, eventually discontinuing the manufacturing of both models in 2024.
