Meredith Magazine Settlement

  • Obtain more information about the class action lawsuit entitled Kinder v. Meredith Corporation
  • Class members in the case claim that Meredith violated Michigan’s Video Rental Privacy Act, M.C.L. 445.1712 by sharing/marketing/selling customers’ magazine subscriptions to third parties
  • The Meredith Corporation has denied any action of wrong doing but have agreed to settle in order to avoid future litigations

The led plaintiff on the Meredith Magazine settlement is one Deborah Kinder who sued the firm on behalf of a group or a “class” of people who have similar claims.  Please note only people who has a street address in the state of Michigan are allowed to file a claim in the Meredith Magazine Settlement and the subscription must have been purchased between the dates of January 1, 2009, and March 28, 2014.  A total settlement amount in the class action lawsuit of $7,500,000 has been proposed and is awaiting a fairness hearing.

  • On top of the 7.5 million dollar payment Meredith also agrees NOT not to disclose any Michigan Subscriber Information to any third-party companies without the prior express written consent of the affected subscribers
  • It is estimated that class members who file valid claims will receive a cash pay out around $100
  • The deadline to file a claim in this case is June 25, 2016
  • Checks should be mailed out about 60 days after the fairness hearing takes place on May 11, 2016
  • Meredith Magazine Settlement checks must be cashed within 90 days or they will become void
  • This class action lawsuit will be heard by the Honorable Thomas J. Ludington
